Mr. Dallas: tippling tips for Simon Cowell, et al
The American Idol judges are in town Friday and Saturday, at the W Hotel, to assess the callbacks from the Aug. 6 auditions at Texas Stadium. When they’re not busy crushing dreams or sifting out the next Kelly Clarkson, here’s what they could do in Dallas.
Simon Cowell
(Scold)
Bar: Let him seethe awhile at the Rattlesnake Bar at Fearing’s.
Restaurant: Only the best will do — Dallas’ newest five-star, Abacus.
Event: The Dallas Symphony performs Mahler’s Symphony No. 9 at the Meyerson. Even sour Simon will appreciate the superb acoustics of the hall and performers who are, you know, musicians.
Paula Abdul
(Flake)
Bar: Better not.
Restaurant: Some extravagance and drama are called for, at Monica’s in Deep Ellum or SushiSamba at the Galleria (shopping!).
Event: Former dancer can play it safe at Luna Negra Dance Theatre show at Latino Cultural Center or go wild at Wet Grooves beach party at Lizard Lounge.
Randy Jackson
(Mr. Middle)
Bar: Keep it simple with a Lower Greenville pub crawl.
Restaurant: Lose count of carbs at Snookie’s on Oak Lawn.
Event: Former rock bassist can head over to House of Blues — Average White Band tonight, Bloc Party on Saturday.
